Why Are So Many Americans Turning to Acupuncture During Cold and Flu Season?

The flu is "for the birds" and it should stay that way. While much of America frets over the slim possibility of an invasion by the birds (Hitchcock was quite the Nostradamus!), the truth is that there have been 150 deaths worldwide due to avian flu over the past 10 years, almost all of them in Asia and Eastern Europe. On the other hand, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that 5 to 20 percent of Americans are afflicted with the flu during each flu season, which typically lasts from November to March. They estimate that in the United States alone, more than 200,000 people are hospitalized, and about 36,000 people die from the flu and its complications every year (National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, March 2006). While the fl vaccination, or flu shot, is helpful to the elderly as well as some immuno-compromised groups, it is obviously not enough. With children being 2 to 3 times more likely to catch colds and flus than adults, prevention is the key for any family.

While the common cold and the flu are both due to respiratory viruses, a cold rarely leads to fevers, headache, exhaustion and dehydration, all common symptoms of a flu virus. Both the cold and the flu are due to airborne viruses, meaning the risk factor is increased in highly populated areas such as subways, crowded homes and schools. It may take 1 to 4 days to show symptoms once infected, and the contagious period is roughly 7 days from infection. Therefore the contagious period may begin even before symptoms
appear, and may last for 3 to 6 days after the symptoms appear (National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, March 2006). Common symptoms of both the cold and the flu are body aches (especially the upper back and neck), chills, dry cough, sore throat and stuffy nose. Children have the additional possibility of ear infections and gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. These symptoms are uncommon in adults.

A common course of treatment for these symptoms is the use of nasal sprays, Tylenol and aspirin, none of which get to the root of the problem, or prepare one for future encounters with the dreaded virus. It is well known that we require an abundance of fluids and rest when fighting off colds and flus, but is there something else we can do to keep these "bad guys" away? Acupuncture, herbs and vitamins are invaluable in the preventative phase and early stages of these viruses.

Acupuncture
While we know the root of colds and flus are viruses, acupuncturists look for the events that precipitate the contraction of the virus. An acupuncturist looks at the propensity of certain individuals to be susceptible to an invasion with a greater amount of "cold" signs versus "heat" signs. The acupuncturist also looks at where one may fall on a continuum of 6 stages of cold induced disorder. Chinese medical theory states that as each of the 6 stages progress, the virus moves deeper internally, starting at the head and progressing through the lungs, stomach, intestines, liver and finally the kidneys. Of great importance in any clinic is the acupuncturist's ability to determine the stage to which a person has progressed and which points to needle based on that stage. As this system provides such detailed organization, the treatments can be much more effective than many of the alternatives on the market, especially if treatment begins in the early stages of infection.

Chinese Herbal Therapy
As the Chinese medical model applies to both acupuncture and Chinese herbal therapy, there are specific herbal remedies dependent upon the stage of the disorder as well as a person's constitutional traits. For example, if a patient suffers from body aches and chills (first stage traits) and has a history of high blood pressure (constitutional trait), some of the warming herbs in a first stage formula would require substitution as not to aggravate the high blood pressure. This makes it imperative to find a qualified clinical herbalist to formulate the remedy for you.

Vitamins
Vitamins are an essential preventative measure for children and adults as we enter the fall and winter. As a general baseline, adults should consider a multivitamin as well as an increase in Vitamin C as the weather turns. Youngsters should take a powdered, chewable or liquid vitamin blend specifically developed for children.

Acupuncture - A Powerful Tool Against Depression

The root is found in China but now it is a popular treatment for many problems and diseases all around the world. People use the technique of acupuncture not only as a medication but also for internal relief because of the treatment's soothing nature. According to the statistics confirmed by World Health Organization, more than 30 problems can be easily solved with the help of this technique. It has now emerged as the only possible solution to many internal weakness problems.

Depression is one thing which has now emerged as a very common problem in youngsters as well. This is happening because of the tension related problems being faced by all of us in our daily life. The technique of acupuncture is something which is now considered as the solution for this problem. Ancient Chinese people used to adapt this methodology when feeling depressed. Their tradition has spoken itself of its worth and it is now considered as a signature treatment for the reduction of problems like depression and tension.

The problem of depression is something which can be built in your personality and can also occur because of continuous problems. So acupuncture can actually provide you the gateway of releasing all that tension. It will allow you to relax a bit and will ease your muscles functionality. It can be very helpful as compared to the medicines because of the fact that these medicines will also have some side effects, which can be probably unknown. So acupuncture can be very beneficial in such problems as it has zero side effects on your body. In fact it can impose some positives not only on your body but also on your mind.

Once your body's trigger points are located, it will be a piece of cake for your acupuncturist. While choosing between the available options, try to keep in mind that, you have to choose wisely as acupuncture is something that is very hard to master. So once you get the perfect person for the job, there is no need to worry about anything. It is a very risky thing to do and if something wrong happens, then the same thing which was very beneficial for you can become dangerous as well.

So when deciding for your acupuncturist, you should not be money saver, but should opt for the best possible solution as this is directly related to your health. Acupuncture simply is a treatment but has a power that can cause wonders for you, your body and your mind as well. So if you are also facing problems in curing your depression and tension related problems, probably this is the best possible solution these days instead of having loads of medicines. This can take you out of your depression and other health related problems very easily and most importantly without any side effects.

Functionality of Acupuncture - How the System Works

It is a very old tradition of using this technique as a medication. Now all over the world there are complete hospitals totally devoted to this field. Many people have adopted this as their profession and are using this methodology for providing health back to their patients. So now whenever you see a Chinese guy poking needles, then don't get upset, as this is the process known as acupuncture.

Question is that how this system works in our body and how it can provide relief to one's body. How one can avoid dozens of health related problems by using acupuncture as a medication. The process of conducting this medication is very tricky job so the one who is doing it should be completely aware of what he or she is doing. This involves the exact finding of the locations of the body points which will have an impact on the whole body. Once these trigger points are completely located, the needles insertion process can begin.

These are very small needles, small in the sense that these are very thin in nature. These are inserted at certain body points from where it triggers the flow of blood. Many research facilities have conducted in different universities in order to understand the concept of this ancient medication; still people have no clue of how it works and why it is so effective. Acupuncture basically revolves around the complete balance of Ying and Yang in the body. If it is not balanced, then this process can make it balanced in your body. This is actually the basic concept of the treatment being discussed.

The healing power of the technique is quite sensational as it can do wonders for an individual's body. If this process is conducted by a master of the technique then there is a very high probability that you will get rid of the problem because of which you decided to take this treatment instead of other medicines that can cause not only damage to your health but also will impose many side effects. So it is a very delicate treatment that can solve multiple issues at one time as well.

So to sum it up, acupuncture can really be a massive tool against many health related problems. It has been practiced to perfection not only in China, but also in major parts of the world. Now you can have good and 100% guaranteed treatment for internal weakness, depression, headache, and many other issues. All you have to do is find the perfectionist in this field so that you can enjoy this treatment without any fear of failure. There are many problems which can be easily solved with the help of this technique, but all you have to do is find the right guy and show your willingness in going through this process.

What is Tinnitus and How is it Treated?

Firstly, what is tinnitus?
Tinnitus is a common condition in which the affected person hears sounds which have no external source. To some degree, these sounds can be considered to be normal. Most people will have experienced a ringing in their ears after being exposed to loud noise or when they are in an extremely quiet environment where all outside noise is excluded.

Other people experience these sounds constantly. Either one or both ears may be affected. The most common sound experienced is a high-pitched ringing. Others report hearing sounds variously described as beeping, roaring, hissing, whistling or clicking.

In mild cases, the symptoms can often be ignored, and have little impact on daily life. In more severe cases it can have a serious impact on the patients quality of life, and makes it very difficult to function normally. The term Tinnitus normally only refers to these more severe cases.

How is it treated?
There are a number of conventional and alternative treatments available for tinnitus. Which one is most suited to your particular case depends on whether you can discover a treatable cause to your problem.

The more treatable causes include:
  • A build up of wax blocking the ear canal
  • Ear infections Sinus problems, causing pressure on the middle ear
  • High blood pressure High levels of stress or anxiety - taking regular exercise, learning relaxation techniques, vitamin B supplements and certain herbs including valerian, passionflower and chamomile can help to lower stress levels
  • Caffeine - try lowering your intake to see if this has an impact on your symptoms
  • There are over 200 medications which list tinnitus as a possible side effect.Discuss any medications you may be taking with your doctor.
In the majority of cases, however tinnitus treatments do not completely eliminate the symptoms. It is often only possible to manage the condition to make it easier to live with.

The most common cause of tinnitus is hearing loss. This may be either age related or due to exposure to excessive noise. In the absence of external sound, the brain can often generate a perception of sound to compensate.

In this case, wearing a hearing aid can help to reduce the effects. Also try to avoid noisy situations which may be aggravating the problem or if this is not possible, wear proper hearing protection.

Tinnitus maskers work along the same lines as a hearing aid, by providing a background noise which reduces the perception of the tinnitus sound. Although the results are only temporary, they provide the most immediate form of relief.

Natural Treatments For Tinnitus Prove to Be Very Effective

Because there is a distinct lack of effective medical treatment for tinnitus, those who suffer from this condition turn to natural treatments such as acupuncture and herbs. There are also a number of home remedies for tinnitus as well.

A very important point to note is that tinnitus itself is not a condition: it is a symptom of a pre-existing condition such as a previous trauma or stress. To this effect, natural treatments may take longer to work because they occur naturally, i.e. they are not induced treatments.

Acupuncture is a very popular form of alternative natural treatment. Needles are inserted at distinct points around the ear for a few minutes. After a few treatments most patients feel some progress.

Herbal treatments are commonly used in tinnitus therapy. However, herbal treatments do not permanently treat the tinnitus as they do not treat the root cause. They offer the patient some relief, albeit temporary. Herbal treatments are one of the more cheaper forms of treatment. When combined with other treatments, they prove to be very effective.

Vitamin based therapies are very popular as there are many combinations of vitamins that can give relief from tinnitus. Although it should be noted that vitamins alone cannot cure your condition, but they can cause a great improvement in your symptoms. There has been a lot of success in reducing the severity and frequency of tinnitus by taking vitamin therapy.

Homeopathic treatments are one of the best treatment options. They work well in treating the symptoms without any of the unwanted side-effects that are associated with medication. When combined with a diet and exercise plan, they prove to be one of the most effective treatments.

It seems that tinnitus sufferers get better and more noticeable results with natural treatment for tinnitus. Natural treatments are more inexpensive and you are less prone to side effects, than when you are using medication.

Tests For Pulmonary Hypertension

In my previous article I explained the signs and symptoms that you might have which reflects the status of your hypertension of pulmonary origin. They are used for the purpose of primary diagnosis for this disorder.
Now further evaluation of your disease requires confirmatory tests. These will probably be tests conducted for ruling out the probability of related but different disorders. Therefore for this purpose you would have to undergo a series of such tests.

So what are these tests and why should I have them performed on me?
Online pharmacy is here to help you understand the significance of these tests. Although in many cases the disease is diagnosed but provisionally in patients, so it is likely to have these following be performed on you.
These general tests procedures include the following:
• Pulmonary function tests to check your pulmonary status
• Blood tests to rule out the presence of diseases such as AIDS/HIV, autoimmune diseases, and liver disease.
• Electrocardiography (ECG) to check out related abnormality of cardiopulmonary origin
• Arterial blood gas measurements
• X-rays of the chest that might be followed by a high-resolution CT scanning. The scan is performed when there is suspected interstitial lung disease.
• Ventilation-perfusion or V/Q scanning that is to exclude the chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.
• Lung tissue biopsy is indicated only when you are suspected to have an underlying interstitial lung disease otherwise it is not much regarded in pulmonary hypertension.
• A point to note here is that if a high intrapulmonary blood pressure, there is a risk of bleeding in simplest of lung biopsy.

Which procedure is the most specific other than the above mentioned tests?
For the diagnosis of pulmonary artery hypertension you must know one thing that there are always two associated conditions with this problem. They are namely Pulmonary artery occlusion pressure (PAOP) that should be less than 15 mm Hg (2000 Pa) and pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) which must be greater than 3 Wood units (240 dyn•s•cm-5 or 2.4 mN•s•cm-5). If these two conditions are found to as mentioned above then you are a pulmonary hypertension patient.

Echocardiography can be used to estimate the pressure of the pulmonary artery but there is a more definite assessment with the Swan-Ganz catheter. This is because the PAOP and PVR cannot be measured directly with echocardiography. Thus the diagnosis of PAH requires a right-sided cardiac catheterization. This procedure uses a Swan-Ganz catheter that can also measure the cardiac output, which is a far more important tool in measuring disease severity than the pulmonary arterial pressure.
As the Normal pulmonary arterial pressure has a mean value of 12-16 mm Hg (1600-2100 Pa) and that too in a person at sea level. But if you have Pulmonary hypertension your mean pulmonary artery pressure will exceeds 25 mm Hg (3300 Pa) at rest or 30 mm Hg (4000 Pa) with exercise.

Often reported on the echocardiogram reports Mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP) is generally confused with the systolic pulmonary artery pressure (sPAP). So when you get your echocardiogram report you should be aware of it. A systolic pressure of 40 mm Hg typically implies a mean pressure more than 25 mm Hg that is roughly, mPAP = 0.61•sPAP + 2. So don' forget to check these out in your reports.
What tests are there which indicates the improvement of my disease?

The chances of improving clinically can be checked by the simple walk test known as the "six-minute walk test." If you are to be checked for stability and improvement in your disease this measurement will correlate with better survival. In this test you would have to walk for 6 minutes and the distance you walk will indicate and this assess the relation between distance walked during the six-minute walk test and exercise capacity determined by your maximal cardiopulmonary exercise testing.

Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), now known as B-type natriuretic peptide or GC-B, is a 32 amino acid polypeptide which secreted by your heart ventricles in response to excessive stretching of heart muscle cells (cardiomyocytes). So it can be used to follow the progress of patients with pulmonary hypertension.

Though this disease is rare and you might not know about it until the symptoms surface out with much force it still treatable and depends on your will power as is the case in all diseases. Watch out for more on pulmonary hypertension at pharmacy online.

Lower Blood Pressure Through Healthy Foods

High blood pressure is definitely a serious and tricky topic. It is a type disease that doesn't show any signs or symptom in the early stages. It is often referred to as a silent killer since it leads to life threatening diseases before you know it. A wide variety of effects from having a high blood pressure ranging from occasional headaches and neck pains to strokes, kidney and heart failure, and paralysis can be very alarming especially if it doesn't only affect adults but also teenagers with known history of blood pressure in their family. Good to know that there are safe ways of lowering blood hypertension for those who are already suffering from it and at the same time preventing members of the family from acquiring it.

Since we live in a modern world of processed foods and instants ready to eat meals, it would be very helpful to check carefully on the food labels so that you will be able to prioritize foods that are low in sugar, fat and salt.

Some of the foods that are strongly suggested are the following: Potassium rich foods such as papaya, guava, bananas, fresh figs, cantaloupes, kiwi, prunes, oranges, strawberries, and raspberries. Celery is considered the best food for strength since it contains a unique type of oil that regulates blood flow without any side effects. Some vegetables rich in potassium and fiber include spinach, avocado, green beans, carrots, tomato, green peas, broccoli, beets, baked potato, lentils, yam and Lima beans. How to Address Your Panic Disorder

Have you ever wondered how much persistent panic attacks have affected your life negatively? Let's backtrack to some experiences that teach an important lesson: It is never too early to address your panic disorder.

You were once living actively- engaging in your favourite sports, going out for a regular jog along the street, and boarding the bus that will take you to your next vacation destination (the 5th you had in 2 months). You were once so amiable to your office mates and boss; ever so willing to attend meetings and deliver your presentations with the manner of a successful and confident professional. You once loved to socialize and explore more, go to new places, and accept more challenging responsibilities related to work. There was no need to address your panic disorder because it simply did not exist.

Suddenly, you became generally anxious. It may be caused by a certain traumatic experience such as being scrutinized in public or facing a situation that put your life at risk; or you may not even be able to determine the triggers at all. Months passed and you felt the general sense of worsening anxiety and fear. The initial need to address panic disorder started to emerge. You experienced sudden bouts of overwhelming fear, along with a racing pulse, rapid heartbeats, and a heaving chest because it was difficult to breathe. During those moments, you felt nauseated, flushed, and you believed for a time that you were about to faint, have a heart attack, or die. The panic attacks recur until now, and each time these have happened, they have been too much to bear.

If you have the same or similar experiences, you should be conscious of the radical change your life has undergone. You have been avoiding several situations that you think will cause another panic attack. You limit your activities. At times, you don't want to go to the office anymore. You just want to stay at home, confined within any limited space you deem to be safe. If all these become too familiar, take time to realize how much your life has become substantially more stagnant than the life you once led. If you haven't started, you should properly address your panic disorder now.

One of the major things that you should know about your situation is that to address your panic disorder, you should realize that you have been living in not just constant irrational fear of things, situations, or places; you have been afraid of fear itself. You are too afraid of undergoing another terrifying panic attack because you know very well how terrifying it feels. You anticipate when it would strike next; thus, you develop even more irrational fears of other situations and places. You avoid settings and situations where you associate past or probable panic attacks.

Do not lose hope. If you do, your situation will worsen and you'll get stuck within a vicious cycle of anxiety and panic. While medications are commonly used, there are other effective and powerful techniques available for people like you, which do away with medication. Upon deciding to address your panic disorder, you are a step closer to attaining this goal by employing these very powerful techniques that can effectively address your "fear of fear", and immediately end your panic attacks for good.

Alternative Treatment For Thinning Hair to Stimulate Natural Hair Growth

It is important to be selective about which treatment for thinning hair you to reverse hair loss. Some of these products contain chemicals and other ingredients which are way too harsh for the strands. Certain additives are put in the products in order to stimulate hair growth. Vitamin E stimulates hair growth by improving circulation and increasing blood flow to the scalp. This vitamin can be taken as a supplement or you can cut open a vitamin E capsule and apply the oil directly to the scalp.
Other vitamins which are good for the hair include vitamins B and C.

Herbal Treatment for Thinning Hair

Green tea is another important treatment for thinning hair. It lowers the production of the hormone which causes male and female pattern baldness.
It is very important for you to begin treatment for your hair loss as soon as you notice that your strands are thinning. How to Handle Stress - The Relaxation Response

Lots of scientific studies show meditation improves health. It alleviates stress. Reduces blood pressure. Even the risk of getting diabetes or having a heart attack fall. But do you know why?

According to Herbert Benson its all down to the Relaxation Response. He says this is a "calm but alert state" produced by meditation. And that you can protect yourself from stress by regularly inducing it.
Benson noticed this effect when doing research on mantra meditation during the 1970's. His results were pretty unexpected. He found that the body slows during meditation. Breathing and heart rate are slower. But the mind remains active and aware.

But what makes this so special? What's the difference between this and sitting down and just relaxing?
The answer is that you remain mentally very alert while your body is in deep physical relaxation, which is a unique combination.

So the relaxation response is very different to rest or sleep. As with sleeping, your body slows down. Your metabolism decreases and you consume less oxygen. But during this time you have an active brain. A scan of the brain (EEG) shows Alpha Waves during meditation. This usually only occurs when you're awake.
Many people will find this technique very useful. Especially since we live in a high stressed society. Why? Because the Relaxation Response protects you from the effects of the Flight or Fight reaction.

The Fight or Flight Response - What is it?
When you believe you are in some form of physical danger, your body reacts with this response. You are then urged through your system to escape from harm. Your body releases some hormones that:
  • Speed up your heart
  • Make you breathe faster
  • Increase blood flow to your muscles.
When you are in danger this response works perfectly. That's its purpose. But in present times, the stress we encounter isn't physical. We face work stress, future worries and family stress. We have bosses that are difficult and deadlines that are impossible.

Still, we find that by design we react as if we are in physical danger. With the Fight or Flight Response.
If there were a physical threat this response would give us the energy to escape or fight. Releasing the built-up energy. But if the stress is mental we cannot easily release it.

With time there is irreversible damage to our system that can lead to heart attacks and strokes.
This is why the Relaxation Response becomes essential. When we practice it for 20 minutes in both the morning and evening it helps to protect us from chronic stress.

The Relaxation Response - How it is done

Often our minds are very busy. Full of thoughts. We're not usually aware of this though. But take a moment to sit and try not to think. Try it now... Impossible isn't it?

Unfortunately many of these thoughts are upsetting. The Relaxation Response is designed to help us disrupt this activity with a word repeated silently in our mind.

This is a simple process best done twice a day for 20 minutes in each sitting.
1. Select a short word, syllable or even a number.
2. Find somewhere comfortable. Sit down and let go.
3. Allow your body to relax.
4. Repeat your word silently.
5. Let go and don't focus on doing it right.
6. As your mind starts to wander, focus again on the word.
7. Make sure you do this at least for 20 minutes.
8. When you finish, rest for 3 minute

Foods That Help Fight Depression

According to several studies more than 15 million people annually in the U.S are showing symptoms of depression. This mental illness affects people irrespective of sex, age, origin and economic status. In other words, depression is a mental state in which the sadness prevents people from doing everyday activities. It is a disorder experienced by the entire body and affects the mood, the thoughts, and the overall health of an individual. In fact, it affects the way someone feels about himself and about those around him, and can even affect our everyday needs like food and sleep.

Depending on the severity and symptoms, depression can be classified into three types: unipolar, which is the most common type, dysthymia - a chronic type and bipolar disorder, which consist of periods of depression, as well as periods of increased energy and good mood.

There are many possible causes of this condition: loneliness, financial problems, a stressful lifestyle, family problems, the death of a loved one, heredity, chronic pain or health problems such as diabetes, alcohol or drug abuse, and early childhood trauma are some of the reasons that can trigger this disorder. Apart from these factors, it has been found that our diet can also affect our mood. For example, the lack of vitamins such as B1, B2, B3, B6, and B12, in addition to the absence of biotin, folic acid and pantothenic acid from our diet can also lead to depression. Carbohydrates can relieve the symptoms of mild depression by increasing serotonin levels, which is the same way that most antidepressants work.

To fight feelings of sadness you should also consume omega 3-fatty acids contained in oily fish, tuna, salmon and flaxseed. Many studies have linked the Japanese diet with low levels of depression. This diet includes 15 times more omega 3-fatty acids compared to the consumption of western Europe and the U.S.
What is more, you need to keep in mind that while it is good to maintain low levels of fat in our diet, it is not a good idea to avoid it completely. Diets with less than 25% of fat may be harmful to people suffering from this condition, because it reduces the production of serotonin.
Foods that help fight depression:
  • Foods rich in Omega 3 fatty acids (like fish)
  • Spinach and Beans
  • Cabbage
  • Broccoli and cauliflower
  • Black rice
  • Muesli
  • Fruits rich in antioxidants
Additionally, it is highly recommended to restrict the consumption of foods like white bread, rice, soda, chips, cookies and candies.

It has been noted that many individuals in this generation are unhappy at different stages in their lives for different reasons. According to studies conducted in the United States, at least 17 million individuals or one tenth of the population are unhappy. It will take at least four to five weeks to determine and see the real effects of the herb.

2. Omega-three fatty acids or the "sensible fat". This is one type of fat that is needed by the body for normal brain function. Studies suggest that low intake of omega-3 fatty acids will lead to depression for most people. Obtaining enough of Omega-three acids is essential healthy brain.

3. Slow down with caffeine. If you are fond of taking caffeine-rich foods, you are advised to take it slowly. Studies showed taking more caffeine can create adverse effects on one's health. Some may experience abnormal palpitations for taking more caffeine.

Understanding of Diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes mellitus is a disease with high levels of sugar (glucose), because the body can not release or use insulin adequately. Insulin is a hormone made and released by the pancreas gland into the blood vessels. The function of insulin is to facilitate the entry of glucose into the cells of the body to be burned into energy or stored as energy reserves.

Someone said to suffer from diabetes mellitus if fasting blood glucose levels more than 125 mg / dL and sugar content while exceeding 200 mg / dL. A normal sugar level (70-110mg/dL in fasting state) tends to rise gradually after the age of 50 years, especially in people who are not actively engaged.

Elevated levels of blood sugar after eating or drinking stimulates the pancreas to produce insulin, thus avoiding any increase in blood sugar levels further and make blood sugar levels have declined steadily.
Another way to lower blood sugar level is doing physical activities such as sports, because the muscles use the glucose in the blood to be used as energy.

Causes and types of diabetes mellitus
Diabetes mellitus occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin to maintain normal blood sugar levels or when cells do not give the right response to insulin.
There are two types of diabetes mellitus, namely:
  1. Type 1 (IDDM = insulin dependent diabetes mellitus).
  2. Type 2 (NIDDM = non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus).
Type 1
Production of insulin by the pancreas: There is little or no.
Age: Generally < 30 years.
Factors associated: Environmental factors (viral infection or poor nutrition in childhood or early adult) causes the immune system destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas). For this to happen required a genetic predisposition.

Type 2
Production of insulin by the pancreas: Adequate or even exceed the normal, but the body develops immunity to its effects (insulin resistance).
Age: Usually > 30 years (but can also to children or early adults).
Factors associated: Risk factor for Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 is obesity (80-90% of this type of diabetic people who are overweight). Genetic factor also plays a role in this type of diabetes (the disease tends to be inherited from the parents to the child).

Other causes:
  1. High level of child's kidney hormone.
  2. Pregnancy (which will disappear after delivery).
  3. Drugs that can damage the pancreas.
  4. Toxins that affect the production of insulin by the pancreas or inhibit the effects of insulin on cells (so that glucose can not be utilized by the cells).

Danish Pastry and Diabetic Bakeries

The Danish pastry was originated in Vienna as a popular treat, this was in turned called the Viennese bread. And the Danish pastry is known in Spanish speaking countries as factures or factures, this was created in Denmark and spread rapidly throughout the rest of the region and everyone made their own style of Danish. The Danish is made from the same normal pastry ingredients such as eggs, flour and milk also yeast.

The initial amount of butter will be different as this particular recipe needs the butter to give an extra flavor to it. After the dough is made it is thinly rolled then melted butter is spread over a layer of dough many times into many layers, this actually makes it easier to access the dough later. But it frequently comes up with a pastry which is flaky and fluffy, and then more butter is spread for flavor. And where it comes to the issue of shapes the Danish has a circular hole in the middle to hold up the toppings that are places on the top. Some other bakers make these pastries in different shapes like spirals and formed in various patterns of eight.

The thing that significantly adds to the Danishes original taste is the toppings and there are a wide range of toppings which can be placed on top of the Danish. Some of these topping that make it flavor full are like chocolate and custards or even icing, and there are other topping which are made from jam or fruit and if you like cream then there is cream cheese.
